Kaiju No. 8 film: conclusion arc The Final Mission arrives in 2027

TOHO Animation announced on Saturday that the Kaiju No. 8 film conclusion arc, based on Naoya Matsumoto's manga, will be adapted as a theatrical film set to open in 2027. The film is titled Kaiju No. 8: The Final Mission.

The announcement came with a super teaser visual featuring the tagline "The era of humans is over." The art was created by art director Shinji Kimura, who worked on the TV series. Shigeyuki Miya returns as director, with production by Production I.G.

The cast reunited at a Defense Force event in Tachikawa, Tokyo, where the information was revealed. Kafka Hibino/Kaiju No. 8 voice actor Masaya Fukunishi commented on the timing: the film arrives in the year he turns the same age as the protagonist, 32.

The manga ended in July 2025 after more than 20 million copies. The first season premiered in April 2024 and the second in July 2025, both streamed by Crunchyroll. A compilation film of the first season, Mission Recon, played in North American theaters in 2025.

The announcement marks the final stage of the adaptation of one of the most popular anime of recent years, elevating the scale of the battles to the big screen.
