Arrowhead Game Studios announced on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, the switch of the anti-cheat system in Helldivers 2 Easy Anti-Cheat. The game leaves GameGuard and adopts Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC), with the change taking effect the same day.
What happened?
In the official Steam post, the developer explained that GameGuard “wasn't as effective as it could have been.” The decision aims to combat cheat mods that influence other players' experience, alter pickup rates, and even manipulate the Galactic War.
In addition to the switch, the studio implemented additional security measures. Mods that affect third-party gameplay should stop working. Non-malicious cosmetic mods may need updates from their creators.
Why does this matter?
Helldivers 2 is one of the most popular co-op games today, and the integrity of the Galactic War is central to the community. Easy Anti-Cheat is standard in over 200 games and, according to Arrowhead, offers better protection. Compatibility with Steam Deck and Linux remains unchanged, according to the official FAQ.
The update also brings balance adjustments to weapons and stratagems, including a pass on the Scope of Authority warbond.
