Happy Kanako's Killer Life anime confirmed for April 2027

TOHO Animation has officially announced a television anime adaptation of the comedy manga Happy Kanako's Killer Life, set to premiere in April 2027. The announcement followed a mysterious teaser featuring otters.

What happened?

Toshiya Wakabayashi's manga, popular for its four-panel stories and already adapted into live-action on DMM TV, is getting an animated version. Direction is by Shinji Takamatsu, renowned for Gintama and Kochikame, who will also handle the scripts. Production is by Studio Drive, with Yoshiyuki Ōkubo on character design and as chief animation director.

The main cast was revealed: Hana Tamegai voices protagonist Kanako Nishino, Ryōta Suzuki plays Sakurai, and Junichi Suwabe the company president.

About the Happy Kanako's Killer Life story

Nishino Kanako leaves an abusive job at an advertising agency and takes the first opening she finds: a company that hires contract killers. Reluctant at first, she discovers an impressive natural talent for the trade, creating a light absurd comedy that mixes office routine with dangerous missions.

The manga has sold over 1.2 million copies and has a live-action series starring Non, with a recent second season.

Why it matters

With Takamatsu in charge, known for dynamic comedies with precise timing, the adaptation promises to capture the original's humor. The Happy Kanako's Killer Life anime should attract both manga fans and contemporary comedy anime audiences.
