Hamster re-releases Ripple Island and Fighting Golf on October 8

Hamster put two 1988 classics on the October 8 calendar. Console Archives Ripple Island arrives on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2, and Fighting Golf joins the Arcade Archives and Arcade Archives 2 lines on PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch.

Ripple Island is Sunsoft's adventure in which Kyle tries to rescue Princess Nasareru, kidnapped by a monster who calls himself Emperor Groaker. The player uses nine commands, and choices change the ending. Hamster is selling the release for $7.99, or 800 yen. In-game text is Japanese only.

Console Archives brings older home-console games to current platforms, with button remapping, rapid fire, multiple save points, and, on some titles, rewind. Screen adjustments and filters that mimic a CRT television are also included.

Fighting Golf on the same day

Fighting Golf is SNK's 1988 golf game. The player picks one of four characters, with different distance and accuracy profiles, and plays 18 holes with rough, bunkers, water, and trees. Before each hole the game suggests a club based on the distance to the pin.

Arcade Archives 2, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, costs $9.99, or 1,100 yen. Arcade Archives, for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, costs $7.99, or 838 yen. Owners of the earlier edition can upgrade to Archives 2 for $2.99, or 330 yen. The second line adds Time Attack to the Original, Hi Score, and Caravan modes, plus online rankings.

The two releases are not one collection. They are different labels from the same company, one aimed at home consoles and the other at arcades, launching on the same day. The official Ripple Island page is at consolearchives.com. The Fighting Golf page is at arcadearchives.com.
