GTA 6 PC AI could arrive sooner than expected. Obbe Vermeij, former technical director at Rockstar North, said in an interview with Rock Paper Shotgun that advances in generative AI could pressure Rockstar to release GTA 6 on PC sooner than the traditional gap between consoles and computers.
What he said
Vermeij, who worked on GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas and GTA IV, explained that current AI tools would probably be able to adapt the PS5 version to PC. The result would not be as good as an official port, but it could still hurt sales.
“If I were Rockstar, I would be concerned that someone would take the PS5 version and get AI to change it to PC,” he said. “It won’t be as good as their effort, but it could still hurt their sales. So I wouldn’t be surprised if there was an effort to get the releases a little closer together.”
Cost and feasibility
According to the developer, the process would take many hours and tens of thousands of dollars in AI tokens. Even so, he believes the scale of GTA would make people try it.
Vermeij made clear he has no internal information about Rockstar’s plans and that his analysis is based on technical experience.
Launch context
GTA 6 arrives on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. There is no official PC date. Earlier reports pointed to a possible window in the first quarter of 2027.
The statement comes at a time of intense discussion about AI in the games industry, with platforms dealing with a growing volume of automatically generated content.
