Grounded 2 Rot and Ruin: update cuts PC size from 37GB to 18GB and adds Woodpile biome

Obsidian Entertainment has released the Grounded 2 Rot and Ruin update for the shrunken survival game, bringing an impressive optimization to the game's size on PC and significant new content for players.

What changed in size with Grounded 2 Rot and Ruin?

The PC install size dropped from 37 GB to 18 GB, a 51% reduction. The company rebuilt the game's foundation and migrated to Unreal Engine 5.7. Because of this restructuring, an incremental patch is not possible: players must download the full game again. On consoles, the savings are smaller, between 200 and 300 MB. This change in Grounded 2 Rot and Ruin especially benefits those with limited hard drives.

New content: Woodpile biome

The highlight of the Grounded 2 Rot and Ruin update is the Woodpile biome, where the shrunken protagonists encounter termites for the first time. There are workers, soldiers, a queen, and the O.G.R.R. king, plus variants. New bosses include a centipede, and there is a mount: the Potato Beetle Buggy, a battle beetle that fires high-damage projectiles and heals with its roar.

Other additions in Grounded 2 Rot and Ruin include a paint system for bases with paintball, weapon upgrades with Bismuth via the Yoking Press, Perfect Dodge mechanic, quick-swap mutation loadouts, new weapons, armor, and building pieces.

Why Grounded 2 Rot and Ruin matters

For PC players with limited disk space, the reduction in Grounded 2 Rot and Ruin is a clear win. The move to Unreal 5.7 promises better graphics and performance. The game remains in early access, with full release expected in 2027. The update is available on Steam, Xbox, Game Pass, and PlayStation 5.
