GROTESQQQUE gets three manga one-shots in November and opens in Japanese cinemas on November 6

The CloverWorks anime anthology GROTESQQQUE will get three manga one-shots on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ in the same week it opens in Japanese cinemas, on November 6. Each one-shot derives from one of the film’s three shorts, by a different artist — with dates already set: November 6, 7 and 8.

First, on November 6, comes “A(E)LIENS”, by Miharu, artist of Island Rock. The original short follows an alien goodwill ambassador whose time on Earth is complicated by human sentiment and another alien. On the same day, the film reaches Japanese cinemas, after a delay that moved it out of 2025.

On November 7, “Young Panther 19 Buchigillle Knowing”, by Hiroshi Shimomoto, artist of SMOTHER ME and Delinquent Gacha, derives from “YOROSHIKU★Girl”, the neon-lit all-girls urban battle royale. The short began a limited streaming run on Netflix Japan on October 23.

Closing the trio, on November 8, “nocturne ~Kiremeku Yoru, Tsumugu Eien~”, by Yuki Kirishima, artist of Legal Dog, revisits the post-apocalyptic short “NOCTURNE: NUIT GROTESQUE”, about a vampire and three girls who survived infection by having their blood sucked by her.

GROTESQQQUE is directed by Atsushi Nishigori, director of Darling in the Franxx, who also wrote the script and created the original character designs. Nishigori directed “A(E)LIENS” and “NOCTURNE: NUIT GROTESQUE”, while “YOROSHIKU★Girl” was directed by Takahiro Miura, of Fate/stay night [Unlimited Blade Works]. The film is an original work — not an adaptation — split into three segments with very different styles: an alien comedy in Shibuya, an action battle royale, and a slower vampire story in a gothic apocalypse.

The one-shot announcement was reported from Aniplex material, via a public post by the @WSJ_manga account on X. So far, there is no confirmation of an international cinema release or of the one-shots outside the Japanese Shonen Jump+ — what has been announced, for now, covers Japan.
