Fortune and China’s IT Home report that OpenAI is preparing a preview of its cybersecurity model GPT-6 Cyber in the coming days, possibly at DevDay on September 29, 2026 in San Francisco. OpenAI has not confirmed the name or date.
What happened?
Unnamed sources cited by Fortune, and relayed by IT Home on September 25, say GPT-6 Cyber would be the company’s fourth cybersecurity model this year, after GPT-5.4-Cyber, GPT-5.5-Cyber and GPT-5.6-Cyber. A companion product would help customers deploy it more safely and automatically.
A few Daybreak Red customers are said to have alpha access. Daybreak is OpenAI’s gated program for authorized defenders: Blue for general defense workflows, Red for specialized vulnerability research.
Why it matters
DevDay 2026 is Tuesday, September 29 at Fort Mason. Sam Altman’s keynote starts at 10 a.m. PT and will be livestreamed. The official event page does not list GPT-6 Cyber. Public Daybreak docs still name GPT-5.6-Cyber as the cyber-specific model.
What changes in practice
Nothing changes yet for the public API. Treat GPT-6 Cyber as a reported plan until OpenAI posts a note or updates documentation. IT Home also says DevDay may include more than ten other products, most unrelated to cybersecurity.
