Google DeepMind launches Genie 4: world model with native audio and real-time control

Google DeepMind announced Genie 4, its new generation of world model for real-time interactive simulation. Revealed on October 27, 2026, the update brings native audio and the ability to steer scenes with natural-language prompts while they unfold.

What makes Genie 4 different?

According to the official DeepMind blog, Genie 4 is natively multimodal: it generates visuals and audio simultaneously, including ambient sounds, music and interactive dialogue. Users can modify a simulation in real time — change the weather, move the camera or introduce new characters and objects — and the model adapts the result contextually.

Simulations maintain coherence for up to two minutes, double the length of Genie 3. There are improvements in physics, more fluid movement and more natural human characters. Behind the scenes, Gemini-family models help: Gemini Omni anchors appearance and behavior in the real world, while Gemini 3.8 Flash acts as a guiding agent, planning steps and checking frames to preserve continuity.

Availability and potential uses

Genie 4 is in research preview for a limited group of trusted testers. It is expected soon for Google AI Ultra subscribers in Project Genie and for early-access partners via the Gemini API and AI Studio. A waitlist is open for Project Genie.

DeepMind highlights uses such as film pre-visualization, game-idea prototyping, training environments for robots and agents, and creation of interactive experiences. Safely simulating varied worlds is seen as an important step toward AGI.

Why it matters

World models that generate explorable, editable environments in real time bring game, film and robotics creation tools closer to faster, more accessible workflows. Native audio and natural-language control reduce the distance between an idea and a playable or visualizable simulation.

It remains a research preview. Limitations in duration, long-term consistency and access cost (initially on higher-tier plans) are still present. The advance, however, shows how interactive world generation is evolving rapidly.
