Santa Monica Studio has announced that God of War Laufey will launch on May 20, 2027 on PlayStation 5, three months after the original February 16 date.
What happened?
The studio posted an official statement on X on November 4, 2026. The team thanked fans for the excitement since the June reveal and explained the decision:
"With this in mind, we’ve made the decision to delay God of War Laufey’s release to May 20th, 2027. We will make the most of each moment until then by putting in the finishing touches and pushing the game to its fullest potential."
Why it matters
God of War Laufey is the first mainline game in the series to star Faye, Kratos’ wife, as the lead. She travels through the Everywhen, a realm that gathers gods from multiple mythologies. Combat returns to the faster style of the classic entries.
The delay moves the title out of a crowded February and gives extra time for polish. Pre-orders had already opened in September.
