Gears of War: E-Day on PC needs a strong GPU: 4K starts at an RTX 5070 Ti or RX 9070

Gears of War: E-Day on PC is already in the hands of Premium Edition buyers. Early access began on October 1, 2026, and the general launch, with Game Pass, is set for October 6. First tests show a heavy Unreal Engine 5 game.

What happened?

The Coalition and Xbox Game Studios opened Gears of War: E-Day early access on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC and Steam. The standard edition arrives on October 6 and joins Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on launch day, according to Xbox Wire.

ComputerBase tested the final PC build. The game uses Unreal Engine 5.6.1, DirectX 12, HDR, DLSS Super Resolution (DLSS 4.5 in Performance mode) and Multi Frame Generation up to 6x. There is no path tracing. Tom's Hardware, which measured 43 GPUs, highlights MegaLights as a signature of this version.

Why it matters

Gears of War: E-Day goes back 14 years before the first game and follows Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago on Emergence Day. ComputerBase places about 50 fps on the highest preset, with DLSS or FSR, from these tiers:

  • WQHD: RTX 5060, RTX 4060 Ti, RX 9060 XT or RX 7700 XT.
  • Ultrawide 3440×1440: RTX 5060 Ti, RTX 4070, RX 9070 GRE or RX 7800 XT.
  • 4K: RTX 5070 Ti, RTX 4070 Ti Super, RX 9070 or RX 7900 XTX.

RTX Mega Geometry only pays off clearly on an RTX 5090 in the same test.

What changes in practice

Premium owners have been playing since October 1. The standard edition, listed at 70 euros, arrives on October 6; Premium was listed at 99.99 euros. An RTX 5060 or RX 9060 XT can handle 1440p with upscaling. At 4K, the floor rises to an RTX 5070 Ti or RX 9070 for about 50 fps. Those figures are ComputerBase benchmarks, not an average of every scene.
