Gears of War: E-Day is already in early access for Premium Edition buyers and Game Pass subscribers with the Premium Upgrade. Xbox Wire, in a post by Mike Crump, studio head at The Coalition, set the start for October 1 at 8 a.m. PT (15:00 UTC). 4Gamer reported the opening and the launch trailer on Friday, October 2, Japan time.
What happened?
The worldwide launch of Gears of War: E-Day remains October 6 at the same hour: 8 a.m. PT, 15:00 UTC. Until then, the game is playable for premium owners and Game Pass players with the upgrade. Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, Windows and Steam. Cloud play is available through Game Pass Ultimate and GeForce NOW. Microsoft also includes the title in Disc to Digital when early access begins.
The campaign is an origin story. Gears of War: E-Day is set 14 years before the first Gears of War and follows Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago on the day the Locust Horde erupts from below. The gameplay trailer uses Metallica’s For Whom the Bell Tolls. The game is built in Unreal Engine 5.
Beyond the campaign, Xbox Wire describes Horde Siege, a co-op mode in which up to four players pick classes (Assault, Marksman, Medic or Breacher) and face waves and bosses on larger maps. Versus returns as 4v4, with ranked and social playlists. Two-player split-screen is console only. Online multiplayer needs a Game Pass subscription that includes online play.
Why it matters
Geekiki had already covered the PC requirements for Gears of War: E-Day. The news now is the play window: anyone who paid for early access no longer waits until Tuesday. On console the game remains Xbox-only; on PC it also arrives on Steam. NVIDIA released the launch trailer with DLSS 4.5, RTX Mega Geometry and ray tracing already in early access. The same weekend, Ace Combat 8 reaches the general public.
