Frostpunk arrives on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 on October 19, 2026. 11 bit studios confirmed the date, released a demo and opened preorders, with a launch discount on the base edition and the Complete Edition.
What happened?
The frozen survival city builder, first released for PC on April 24, 2018, is getting a handheld version. After PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 11, 2019, and iOS and Android on October 29, 2024, the game will run on Switch and Switch 2, according to the announcement reported by Gematsu.
There are two editions. The base game launches at 30% off. The Complete Edition, at 35% off, includes The Rifts, The Last Autumn and On The Edge. In Japan, 4Gamer listed a shelf price of 3,400 yen for the standard edition and 5,129 yen for the complete one, tax included. Preorders placed by 9:59 p.m. local time on October 19 cost 2,380 yen and 3,333 yen.
Why it matters
Frostpunk became a reference survival city builder because the player does more than build New London: they set laws on work, food and health and choose whether society leans on faith and compassion or harder control. The game earned a BAFTA nomination for narrative and was named best simulation of the year by PC Gamer and best PC game by Windows Central, milestones 11 bit cites in the port material.
The Switch release puts that scarcity management into shorter handheld sessions. 4Gamer highlights touch controls in handheld mode as a feature of this version. The demo is already available for anyone who wants to test the pace before buying.
What changes in practice
- Launch on October 19, 2026, on Switch and Switch 2.
- Demo and preorders are already open.
- The Complete Edition bundles The Rifts, The Last Autumn and On The Edge.
- Endless Mode remains, with Serenity for building without the pressure of the main scenario.
The port is not the series' definitive revision. Gematsu notes that Frostpunk 1886, described by 11 bit as a definitive version of the original with substantial new content, is still on the way. Buying now gets the classic game and, in the complete edition, the three DLCs — not that future revision.
