Square Enix released the Tokyo Game Show 2026 trailer for Final Fantasy Resonance this Thursday, marking the franchise's very first HD-2D title. The footage highlights a tale of revenge and bonds centered around crystals while debuting the theme song INSIDE by WurtS. The launch date for Final Fantasy Resonance remains locked: October 22, 2026, on Switch 2, Switch, PS5, Xbox Series, and PC (with Steam arriving on October 23 in Japan).

What Happened?
Dubbed the 'final trailer' by Square Enix in Japan, the video blends field exploration, towns, and turn-based battles rendered in the signature 3D pixelated HD-2D visual style seen in Octopath Traveler and Triangle Strategy. It features voiced dialogue, chocobos, airships, and the 'Visions' system, where heroes from past Final Fantasy games join the fray when players 'resonate' with their crystal.
The story of Final Fantasy Resonance adapts the first arc of the former mobile title Final Fantasy Brave Exvius (2015), now reimagined as a standalone offline console RPG. The kingdom of Grandshelt lives under the shadow of the crystals. Rain, captain of the airship squadron, and his friend Lasswell are ordered to investigate the Earth Shrine. Along the way, they are joined by Fina and other companions. Square Enix sums up the tone: nobody could have foreseen the turbulent destiny awaiting them.
Who Voices and Who Sings
The Japanese voice cast features Nobuhiko Okamoto (Rain), Yūsuke Kobayashi (Lasswell), Akane Fujita (Fina), Akio Ōtsuka (Veritas of the Dark), Inori Minase, Ayaka Ōhashi (Lid), Tsubasa Yonaga (Nichol), Show Hayami, and Kana Hanazawa. English voice acting will also be available.
The trailer's soundtrack is INSIDE by WurtS. Already released as a single, the video officially cements it as the game's musical centerpiece. WurtS's upcoming mini-album SPARK, slated for October 21, will feature collaborative Resonance photo cards available via the Universal Music store in Japan.
What You Can Play Right Now
A free demo of Final Fantasy Resonance is available across all platforms. At Square Enix's TGS 2026 booth, attendees can choose from three slices: the game's opening (New Game), a mid-game dungeon, and a boss arena against tough enemies. The booth also features a massive Final Fantasy VII meteorite in the center of the hall—as Resonance and VII Revelation share the convention's visual spotlight.
The suggested retail price in Japan is 7,678 yen for the standard edition. The Digital Deluxe version includes a magitek armor skin for the chocobo and the grimoire required to unlock the 'Fel Meteor' Limit Burst. The Collector's Edition packs a pixel art artbook, a 120-track soundtrack, acrylic blocks, and a promotional FFTCG card.
