Final Fantasy Resonance is receiving very positive reviews from specialized critics ahead of its global launch on October 22, 2026. The new HD-2D RPG from Square Enix marks the series' return to turn-based combat in a premium experience adapted from the mobile Final Fantasy Brave Exvius.
What happened?
Several reviews were published this Tuesday. Windows Central gave it 9/10, Game Informer praised the Visions system and the return to roots, and Metacritic shows scores in the 85-88 range depending on the platform. Famitsu had previously given it 36/40.
The game arrives for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S (with Play Anywhere), Nintendo Switch, Switch 2 and PC. It is the first Final Fantasy in the HD-2D line, combining classic pixel art with 3D models and dynamic cameras.
Why does this matter?
After years of experimentation with action-RPGs in the main Final Fantasy titles, Resonance offers a more classic experience with job/Visions system, exploration, crystals, airships and moogles. It adapts the first season of Brave Exvius (shut down in 2025) by removing the gacha and turning it into a full single-player RPG.
Critics highlight the strategic combat that exploits weaknesses for stagger and extra turns, plus a charismatic cast led by Rain and Lasswell.
What changes in practice?
The launch is on October 22. There is a demo available on some platforms. The game costs about US$ 49.99 / € 49.99 and offers dozens of hours of main campaign plus post-game content. Fans of Final Fantasy V, VI and the Pixel Remasters should feel at home.
