Final Fantasy turns 40: Distant Worlds Eternal goes on a world tour in 2027

On October 2, 2026, Square Enix confirmed the orchestral tour Distant Worlds Eternal, full name FINAL FANTASY 40th Anniversary Distant Worlds: music from FINAL FANTASY – Eternal / 幽久. The program marks the series' 40th anniversary, which falls in 2027, with a set chosen for the date, a full orchestra and game footage on a large screen.

In Japan, the concerts are conducted by Arnie Roth. Tokyo gets the show on March 20 and 21, 2027, at Tokyo International Forum Hall A. Osaka follows on March 27 and 28 at Grand Cube Osaka. A lottery presale on the Square Enix e-STORE is scheduled to open on November 16, 2026, at 6 p.m. Japan time. Ticket details will be posted later on the Japanese site.

Where the tour stops

Square Enix's initial list includes Tokyo, Osaka, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Vancouver, London, Singapore, Seoul and Paris, with a note that more cities may be added. On the global Distant Worlds site, the New York concert is listed for June 25, 2027, at Carnegie Hall, with composer Nobuo Uematsu announced in attendance. That show is listed as going on sale October 6.

Conducting is shared by Arnie Roth and Eric Roth. Roth has led Distant Worlds since its Stockholm debut in 2007. Square Enix notes that the format has already played more than 94 cities and 300 performances.

Why it matters

This is not a new game. It is the first major public piece of the Final Fantasy 40th calendar away from the screen. Square Enix says the series has sold or been downloaded more than 215 million times. The tour sits beside another 2027 event: the exhibition “The Endless World of Fantasy” at the Tokyo National Museum, running January 8 to April 4, 2027.

There is no locked setlist yet, and Uematsu's presence has not been confirmed for every city. What is set is the format: live music, Square Enix video and a program framed as an anniversary concert, not a routine Distant Worlds repeat.
