Star Detective Precure Movie Unites Three Generations for September Premiere

The current season's Precure movie, Eiga Meitantei Precure! Fushigi na Niwa to Futari no Himitsu (Star Detective Precure! The Movie: The Mysterious Garden and the Secret of Two), has dropped two new trailers and a still this weekend. The production brings together the Precure team from Star Detective Precure! alongside those from You and Idol Precure♪ and Wonderful Precure!, hitting Japanese theaters on Friday, September 18.

What's the latest?

The official movie website and Anime News Network have confirmed the promotional materials. One trailer spotlights the current season's team, while the second trailer and new still showcase the crossover with the two previous generations. Natalie and Toei have also shared comments from the voice actresses of You and Idol and Wonderful.

The plot kicks off as the detective Precure investigate the "X-Mark Incident." The fairy Rain asks for help, leading the group to Karin's Garden, which has been invaded by tiny creatures known as Dame Dame. They stamp an X on objects and people, rendering everything completely useless.

Comedy duo cotton (Jinji Nishimura and Kyon) voice the Dame Dame creatures. The TV series cast returns with Hikari Senga (Cure Answer/Anna Akechi), Kaede Hondo (Cure Mystic/Mikuru Kobayashi), and Nao Tōyama (Cure Arcana Shadow/Ruruka Moria).

Why it matters

This marks the 35th Precure film in the franchise and the theatrical feature for the 23rd TV season. Crossing over three generations is a classic format for these September theatrical releases in Japan, serving as a major event for current fans and a great showcase for longtime followers. While Crunchyroll streams the seasonal anime outside Japan, the Precure movie currently only has a confirmed Japanese theatrical release date.

Behind the scenes

The film is directed by Hanako Ueda, with a screenplay by Yoshimi Narita, a veteran writer for the franchise. Emiko Miyamoto handles character designs and animation supervision. The ending theme is "FIRST PRISM," a duet by Yūka Masui and Chihaya Yoshitake, while Ami Ishii performs the insert song "First Step."

The TV series premiered on February 1, 2026. Anna Akechi, a student from 2027, time-travels to 1999, meets Mikuru, and begins investigating the Phantom Thieves as a detective Precure. The Precure movie expands this mystery with an original garden, new fairies, and a crossover with the immediately preceding seasons.
