FF7 Revelation at TGS 2026: Playable Sid & Vincent in the Whirlwind Maze

Square Enix has unleashed a combat-focused demo for FF7 Revelation (Final Fantasy VII Revelation) at Tokyo Game Show 2026. This slice takes the party straight to the Whirlwind Maze in the Great Void, making Sid Highwind and Vincent Valentine playable for the very first time in a public event.

The final chapter of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy arrives on April 8, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Both Famitsu and the PlayStation Blog published hands-on reports for FF7 Revelation this Thursday and Friday.

What went down in the FF7 Revelation demo?

The TGS build differs from the press-only preview shown at gamescom. In Japan, this slice of FF7 Revelation takes place inside a maze swarming with hooded figures. Monsters fused with these cloaks block the path right up to the boss, Jenova Death (or Jenova Deathmourner, according to Sony's English report).

The demo’s starting lineup features Cloud equipped with the Summoner Wear, alongside Sid and Vincent. Wear is the trilogy’s brand-new battle outfit system, featuring four distinct sets—Warrior, Knight, Black Mage, and Summoner—that completely alter abilities and aesthetics.

How Sid and Vincent play in combat

Sid wields a lance and excels at aerial combat. When a blue aura surrounds him, pressing the attack button again triggers devastating follow-ups like spins and dives. It’s the classic Dragoon role, now supercharged with a precise timing window.

Vincent mixes gunfire with beast forms. Consecutive shots evolve his unique ability (Blood Moon, Execration, Retribution, per the PlayStation Blog). Holding down the defense button unleashes Galian Beast; according to GAME Watch, landing a hit in beast form immediately triggers the HEAT state on the enemy.

Both characters are technical, but Famitsu describes the timing window as demanding without being punishing: once you nail the rhythm, FF7 Revelation’s combat feels faster and clearer than ever.

What does this actually mean?

FF7 Revelation marks the first game in the trilogy where Sid and Vincent officially join the active playable roster. The TGS demo exists to showcase this milestone, not just the environment. The Wear system also injects massive flexibility into party compositions—Cloud as a Summoner is just one example, while Famitsu noted that Sid and Vincent can even be run without any Wears equipped.

There's also a brief narrative slice. Famitsu highlighted a more attentive Cloud interacting publicly with Tifa, plus a cryptic gesture from Sephiroth that is guaranteed to send fans wild. Anyone looking to avoid story spoilers completely will want to skip the lengthy breakdowns of the demo's cutscenes.

In practice

During the boss fight, Jenova Death relies heavily on fire-based attacks. Tentacles sprout from the ground to form a protective barrier, and you can only damage the main body after clearing them all out. Party members shout out warnings in-game, but Famitsu strongly recommended keeping this trick in mind if you're standing in line at TGS 2026.

Aside from the massive Square Enix booth, playable stations are set up across the Sony, CFD, and BenQ areas. There are also three remake trilogy photo spots for attendees unable to secure a demo slot. What this doesn't confirm yet

The FF7 Revelation demo isn't the full game. It doesn't feature the planet-scale Highwind world map or the massive exploration slices shown in previous press briefings. It also remains to be seen whether Sid and Vincent's current timing mechanics will remain entirely untouched by the time the game launches in April 2027.
