FF7 Revelation to Hit 200GB with Sephiroth and Vincent DLCs

FF7 Revelation is expected to take up around 200 GB. Director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed this provisional figure in an interview with VGC during Tokyo Game Show 2026 coverage. The estimate explains why the physical box of Final Fantasy VII Revelation will not contain the entire game on the disc.

What happened?

Hamaguchi stated that the team did not want to 'compromise' the game just to make it fit on a Blu-ray. Consequently, physical editions of FF7 Revelation will require an additional download. According to the director, the file size should hover around '200 GB of gameplay.' For direct comparison, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth already weighed about 145 GB on PS5 and Switch 2, and around 91 GB on Xbox.

The director acknowledged that this massive file size sparks mixed reactions. Even so, he argued that the team must 'push past hardware limits to a certain degree' to deliver their planned scope. He also affirmed that Square Enix wants to keep physical products alive: discs may be declining, but they are not gone, and the studio refused to abandon physical shelves.

What does this mean?

In practice, players buying the physical edition of FF7 Revelation on PS5, Xbox Series, or Switch 2 will install a portion from the disc and download the rest. On PC, gamers should clear plenty of SSD space: 200 GB is nearly double the first remake and well above Rebirth.

Hamaguchi also touched on post-launch content. FF7 Revelation will feature two story DLCs, echoing Intermission, the Yuffie episode from the first remake. One will delve deeper into Sephiroth, while the other focuses on Vincent Valentine and the Turks. The director did not reveal whether these stories are set in the past or the present. The main narrative, he noted, concludes within the base game.

Why does this matter?

FF7 Revelation is the third and final chapter of the remake trilogy. It launches on April 8, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, and PC Xbox). The file size serves as a serious warning for anyone still gaming on a 500 GB hard drive or sharing a console among multiple AAA titles. It also highlights the modern dilemma facing major studios: collector-friendly discs versus digital fidelity.

Players who already have save data from Remake or Rebirth will receive save bonuses, as Square Enix has outlined on their pre-order pages. Premium editions will bundle the expansion pass featuring both story DLCs.

What this doesn't mean yet

The 200 GB figure for FF7 Revelation is a development estimate, not the certified storefront file size. Each platform compresses data differently; with Rebirth, the Xbox version was significantly lighter than the PS5 counterpart. It is best to wait for official store listings closer to launch before deleting your other games.
