The Famitsu chart for September 21–27, 2026 puts Derby Stallion 2 at the top of physical software in Japan, with a 29,336-copy debut on Switch 2. On hardware, Switch 2 sold 32,198 units and stayed ahead of PlayStation 5.
What happened?
Famitsu published its estimate of physical retail sales in Japan. Derby Stallion 2, from GAME ADDICT, launched on September 24 for Switch 2 and was the biggest new release. The next debut was Silent Hill: Townfall, from Konami, at 13,596 copies on PlayStation 5.
The software top 10, with lifetime totals in parentheses when Famitsu reported them:
- Derby Stallion 2 (Switch 2) — 29,336, debut
- Rhythm Heaven Groove (Switch) — 27,309 (1,049,922)
- Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave (Switch 2) — 26,728 (153,859)
- Silent Hill: Townfall (PS5) — 13,596, debut
- Dragon Quest XI S (Switch 2) — 10,844, version debut
- EA Sports FC 27 (PS5) — 9,873, debut
- Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream (Switch) — 8,052 (1,618,104)
- Splatoon Raiders (Switch 2) — 7,405 (671,202)
- EA Sports FC 27 (Switch 2) — 5,952, debut
- Onimusha: Way of the Sword (PS5) — 5,141 (110,087)
On hardware, Famitsu counted 32,198 Switch 2 units (6,360,353 lifetime), 9,730 for the PlayStation 5 family, 6,306 for the original Switch family, and 362 for the Xbox Series family. PS5 Digital Edition alone sold 9,470; PS5 Pro sold 148.
Why it matters
The figure covers Japanese physical retail, not digital. It is still the most cited weekly thermometer of the local market. Derby Stallion 2, a horse-racing game with a loyal audience in Japan, beat the debut of Silent Hill: Townfall and the second week of Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave.
Rhythm Heaven Groove, exclusive to the original Switch, passed 1 million physical copies. Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, launched September 17, already has 153,859 retail copies. Switch 2, past 6.36 million units in this count, still sold about three times the PS5 family for the week.
What changes in practice?
For anyone tracking Japan, the week supports three readings: Switch 2 still dominates physical sales, local franchises such as Derby Stallion can still open strong, and Western launches such as Silent Hill: Townfall and FC 27 chart without leading. The data does not include downloads.
