Epic Games Launcher vibe coded arrives in Preview and promises to be 46% faster than Steam

The Epic Games Launcher vibe coded arrived in Preview on October 14, 2026. Epic Games rebuilt the application from scratch with the help of artificial intelligence and claims it is about 46% faster than Steam on cold start.

What is the Epic Games Launcher vibe coded?

Vibe coding is the process in which most of the code is generated by AI. Epic itself used the phrase “Programming is hard. So, instead of doing that, we vibe coded a new Epic Games Launcher” in the official announcement. The goal was to create a new, lighter, multiplatform codebase without reusing the old code.

Performance numbers

Independent tests commissioned by Epic to Keywords Studios measured 5.47 seconds from cold start to the store, versus 10.07 seconds for Steam. The library loads up to 30 times faster than the previous version of Epic’s launcher. The app is also available natively on Linux for the first time, in addition to Windows and macOS (Apple Silicon).

The Preview version is still light on features and may have bugs. Epic asks for feedback via the Send Feedback button inside the launcher itself.

Why it matters

Martin Keely, vice president of the Epic Games Store, explained that AI allowed a small team to rewrite the launcher and quickly add Linux support. The move reinforces Epic’s bet on AI-assisted development at a time when the topic generates intense debate in the games industry.
