Funcom announced on October 29, 2026 that the free Blood and Ice expansion for Dune: Awakening arrives on December 1, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox. CONFIRMED: the date, the price (free) and the contents below come from the developer's announcement, reproduced by independent outlets.
The expansion takes players to the frozen north of Arrakis, with an entirely new map: the Polar Sink. There, the survival logic flips — heat becomes an ally and the cold demands different equipment, resources and strategies from those used in the desert. According to Funcom, the new map offers around 35 hours of progression, with reasons to return for valuable resources.
Tundra, ice cap and ice as a resource
The Polar Sink has two biomes: the tundra, where wealthy water-shipper families defend lavish strongholds, and the heavily guarded ice cap, where securing access to ice becomes a central goal. Resources exclusive to the region let players craft the gear needed to survive, and harvested ice can also be used outside the new map, to cool base equipment and speed up production.
The expansion also adds vehicle modules, augments and specialization traits, emphasizing ground-level traversal, temperature management and combat. A Water Crisis event will arrive shortly after the expansion, and an Events tab will track progress and rewards.
A roadmap beyond the expansion
The announcement came with a roadmap: offline single-player is planned for November 2026, while character copying and full cross-play are set for January 2027 — separate dates that do not arrive with Blood and Ice. Funcom also announced an optional cosmetics store, with outfits, vehicle variants and base customization, and promises several major free updates throughout 2027.
