Dragon's Dogma 2 adds Hard Mode and DLSS 4.5 in the October 9 update

Capcom confirmed that Dragon's Dogma 2 Title Update 4.0 arrives on October 9, 2026, the same day as the Dark Arisen expansion. The patch adds Hard Mode, a new Pawn specialization and upscaling improvements on PC and PS5 Pro.

What happened?

The announcement, detailed on October 6 and reported by outlets including RPG Site and GamerBraves, lines the free update up with the launch of Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen. The expansion releases on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. On Switch 2, the package bundles the base game and the expansion. On the official site, Capcom describes the snowy Forsaken Dominion, twelve dungeon challenges called Lost Rites, and new hair and tattoo options.

On the base game, update 4.0 adds expansion support, a Hard Mode, the option to restart the adventure while carrying the current save, and the Orienteer specialization for Pawns. Rift crystals from forgotten riftstones rise from 30 to 90; players who already used those stones receive the difference when they boot the game after the patch. Some armor gains thermal properties. There are also fixes for Pawns, quests and the interface.

Why it matters

Dragon's Dogma 2 launched in 2024 without a dedicated hard mode and with performance complaints. Update 4.0 is Capcom's answer on the eve of the expansion: players who finished the campaign can start over with progress kept, and veterans get a Hard Mode. On PC, DLSS Super Resolution moves to version 4.5, DLSS frame generation gains multi-frame generation and can run with super resolution off. FSR 3 Frame Generation enters the graphics menu. PS5 Pro gets official Enhanced PSSR support. DualSense gains adaptive triggers, vibration and motion sensing.

What changes in practice?

  • Title Update 4.0 and Dark Arisen arrive on October 9, 2026.
  • Hard Mode and a restart that keeps the save apply to PS5, Xbox Series and Steam.
  • PC gets DLSS 4.5, multi-frame generation and FSR 3 Frame Generation.
  • PS5 Pro gets Enhanced PSSR; DualSense uses adaptive triggers.
  • On Switch 2, Dark Arisen includes the base game and the expansion in one package.
