What happened?
The DLSS 5 AMD Radeon project advances with version 0.8.0 of DLSS-NR-on-AMD, released by developer Daniel Blanco. It is now possible to run nearly the entire main suite of NVIDIA DLSS technologies on AMD Radeon graphics cards from the RX 7000 (RDNA 3) and RX 9000 (RDNA 4) series.
The update adds support for Ray Reconstruction and Frame Generation, including Multi Frame Generation up to 4x. Combined with the existing Super Resolution and Neural Rendering (DLSS 5), the mod covers all four main DLSS technologies unofficially.
How it works
The project is a full reimplementation using HIP kernels and DirectX 12 integration, not a simple compatibility layer. It includes NeuralHub, a manager that centralizes the required DLLs and allows enabling features individually via an in-game overlay.
Requirements include Windows 11, a recent Adrenalin driver (26.1.1 or newer), and users must provide their own copies of NVIDIA DLLs (such as nvngx_dlssnr.dll). It works in DirectX 12 games with DLSS, FSR, or XeSS support. Games with anti-cheat may block execution.
Initial results
Community tests, such as in Cyberpunk 2077 with an RX 9070 XT at 1440p with path tracing, show mixed results: some report little or no FPS loss with Ray Reconstruction, others losses of 4 to 25 FPS depending on the game and settings. Neural Rendering performance has improved significantly from earlier versions.
RDNA 2 (RX 6000) support is in testing. The project remains experimental and is not affiliated with NVIDIA or AMD.
Why it matters
The modding community continues to expand proprietary technologies to competing hardware, giving Radeon owners access to advanced upscaling and frame generation features without buying a GeForce. This highlights the flexibility of modern architectures and how quickly modders adapt innovations in the DLSS 5 AMD Radeon space. More details on the project's GitHub repository.
