Detective Conan Gets Epic 2-Hour Special After 10 Years with New Mai Kuraki Theme

The Detective Conan anime has officially confirmed a massive two-hour special titled 30-gō Satsujin Jiken ('The No. 30 Murder Case'), marking the franchise's first television special in nearly a decade. The production will air on Nippon TV's Friday Road Show block on September 25 at 9:00 PM Japan time, complete with official key visual art, an 'all-hands-on-deck' trailer, and a brand-new theme song by Mai Kuraki.

What Happened?

Yomiuri TV and the official 30th-anniversary project for Detective Conan dropped the promotional material this Saturday, as covered by MANTANWEB and Anime News Network. The last special of this length was Episode ONE: The Great Detective Who Shrank back in 2016.

The plot kicks off with the circulation of a 10,000-yen banknote featuring the fictional Tōton Tower. Conan, the Junior Detective League, Professor Agasa, Ran, and Sonoko visit the paper currency manufacturing plant in Nagano. Meanwhile, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police and Public Security are mobilized after a banknote found at a murder scene is identified as counterfeit. As this marks the 30th registered forgery case in the country, it is dubbed the 'No. 30 Incident' and the bills become known as 'Ultra 30'.

Conan and Heiji head to Osaka, identified as the printing origin. Other regional squads are pulled into the investigation: the Yokomizo brothers in Shizuoka and Kanagawa, alongside Yamato, Morofushi, Uehara, and Yamamura in Nagano and Gunma. Production notes describe the special as featuring one of the most crowded casts in franchise history—boasting 16 key characters in the main visual.

Theme Song, Guest Cast, and What's Next

Mai Kuraki performs the theme song Hallelujah, marking her landmark 29th collaboration with Detective Conan. The digital single drops on September 25. Actress Elaiza Ikeda also joins as a guest voice actor.

On September 26, the regular broadcast will begin a three-week adaptation of the Akaneiro no Senshūraku ('The Saffron-Colored Final Curtain') arc, covering the Osaka storyline from volume 106 of Gōshō Aoyama's manga.

Why It Matters

Detective Conan has been airing continuously since January 1996. A two-hour special on Friday Road Show—a prime timeslot normally reserved for blockbuster movies—treats the milestone like a national event. The complex counterfeiting plot brings together local police, Public Security, and detectives from multiple prefectures, delivering the kind of massive crossover event the franchise saves for major celebrations.

While the September 25 broadcast airs during morning hours across Southeast Asia and the West, international fans eagerly await streaming updates. The official special landing page is live at ytv.co.jp/conan/30go.
