The reveal of DAWNGAZER IGNISPHERE puts Unicorn Overlord director Takafumi Noma in charge of an original action RPG due in 2028 on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC via Steam. Good Smile Company is publishing Monochrome Corporation's project, with English, Japanese and both Traditional and Simplified Chinese.
What happened?
IGNISPHERE is both the fictional universe and the studio Noma now leads. Monochrome is marking 15 years and partnered with Good Smile to build a world of many nations and races. DAWNGAZER is the first game in that setting and is already in joint development.
Noma programmed hit titles and, on Unicorn Overlord, handled story, character design and direction. The pitch is to apply that craftsman control to a franchise meant for games, merch and books.
Why it matters
Unicorn Overlord was one of this generation's best-received strategy RPGs. Seeing the same director leave the Vanillaware umbrella to run his own IP resets expectations: DAWNGAZER is not a sequel, it is a new universe.
The teaser score is by Yoshimi Kudo (Unicorn Overlord, Elden Ring), with vocals from KOCHO, SAK. and Maki Takimoto. Exclusive interviews are live on Dengeki Online and Famitsu. The official IGNISPHERE X account opened on September 25, 2026.
What changes in practice
Players still lack a demo, a price and a detailed combat system. What changes is the expectation calendar: an auteur action RPG is locked for 2028 on three major platforms, with a multi-media plan from the first press release.
- Platforms: PS5, Switch 2 and Steam.
- Window: 2028.
- Languages: English, Japanese, Traditional and Simplified Chinese.
- Merch and figures: Good Smile Company.
- Light novels: Kadokawa's Fujimi Fantasia Bunko.
Fans of Noma should treat DAWNGAZER IGNISPHERE as a mid-term project, not a gameplay leak. Source: Gematsu and Good Smile Company.
