The roguelike Darkest Dungeon II from Red Hook Studios has received a native edition for the Nintendo Switch 2. Darkest Dungeon II Switch 2 has been available since October 22, 2026, and brings clear performance improvements for those who already own the game on the original Switch.
What changed on Switch 2?
The Switch 2 Edition offers 1080p resolution in handheld mode and 1440p in TV mode, plus a 60 FPS frame rate. It also includes Joy-Con 2 mouse support, fast driving options and accelerated combat. The original game arrived on Switch in 2024 and was already well received by the community.
Those who already own the Switch version can purchase the upgrade pack for just $2.99 (or regional equivalent). The full Switch 2 edition costs around $42.98. The original Switch version is also on sale in some regions.
Why does this matter?
Darkest Dungeon II is one of the most praised roguelikes in recent years, with its dark visual style, stress management and tragic hero narratives. The Switch 2 optimization makes the experience smoother, especially during longer sessions on the road to the mountain. The cheap upgrade eases the migration for those who already invested in the game.
Red Hook Studios announced the news with the characteristic phrase: “Forward now, into oblivion's inky embrace.” The game remains available on PC, PS5, Xbox and the original Switch.
