Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Gets Akasaka Escape Sneak Peek on Netflix

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 received a brand-new sneak peek on Netflix this Tuesday (22). The clip showcases an escape sequence in an Akasaka building, setting the tone for the upcoming 10-episode series, which drops on the streaming platform all at once on October 20.

What Happened?

Anime News Network spotted the video on Netflix's main channel and official anime profile. While not a full trailer, the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 sneak peek highlights an escape scene in Akasaka—a Tokyo district that, in Night City's lore, transforms into yet another stage for neon, chrome, and high-speed chases.

The story is a standalone narrative separate from the 2022 season. David Martinez and Lucy do not return as protagonists. The new crew features Weak Kingsley (a veteran once dubbed 'King'), D (a nomad netrunner seeking revenge), Roman Carax (obsessed with classic cinema and braindance-averse), and Talia Yang (high-tier elite, drawn to chrome and violence).

Who is Behind Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2

CD PROJEKT RED continues its partnership with Studio TRIGGER. Kai Ikarashi directs—marking his directorial debut after serving as an animation director and storyboard artist on the first season. Bartosz Sztybor returns for writing and production. Masahiko Otsuka handles the adaptation, while Ichigo Kanno leads character design.

The dual Japanese and English voice cast features Momoka Terasawa / Valeria Rodriguez (Roman), Akari Kitō / Kimoy Lee (Talia), Kōki Uchiyama / Nazeeh Tarsha (D), and Kentarō Tone / Clancy Brown (Weak Kingsley).

What This Means

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is not a direct continuation, but rather an anthology set in the same world as Cyberpunk 2077: Night City, megacorporations, cyberware implants, and the heavy price of chasing legendary status. The official synopsis describes a gritty chronicle of redemption and revenge, questioning how far you'll go to make your story matter when the city only has eyes for the spectacle.

The opening theme features The Cure's '10:15 Saturday Night' (1978), while the ending theme is 'Watson' by Petite Meller. Rico Nasty also contributed 'YOU CAN’T RUN FROM ME', which was previously teased in the second trailer.

The Bottom Line

On October 20, Netflix will release all 10 episodes simultaneously. The premiere episode already received a closed screening at Anime Expo back in July. Whether you are a veteran of the game or a fan of the original season, you'll be diving back into the same map with a fresh cast and a new visual cut—still powered by TRIGGER, now under Ikarashi's direction.
