What happened?
The Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 arrived today, October 22, 2026, for free. CD Projekt Red launched the Edgerunners 2 Update, which coincides with the premiere of the second season of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime on Netflix and brings content inspired by the series, plus new gameplay mechanics.
The update is available immediately on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Nintendo Switch 2 version arrives in the coming days. Key additions include dual wielding of pistols and revolvers, a new anime prequel quest, cyberware customization, mod.io mod support and a new radio station.
Why does this matter?
Cyberpunk 2077 continues to receive significant support years after its troubled launch. Update 2.5 strengthens the connection between the game and the expanded anime universe, which became a cultural hit. The addition of dual wielding represents one of the biggest combat changes since Update 2.0 introduced throwable knives.
Integration with mod.io makes community content easier to access officially and cross-platform, something rare in major titles. Additionally, the game now supports Xbox Play Anywhere, so a single purchase works on console and PC with save sync.
What changes in practice?
Players can equip the Double Trouble perk in the Cool tree to use two light firearms (Power pistols and revolvers) at the same time. The new "Clampdown" quest serves as a prequel to Edgerunners 2 and has V meet Weak Kingsley, one of the anime's main characters, on a mission in Night City Prison.
- New radio station HKGN 102.0 FM with tracks from both anime seasons
- Cyberware appearance customization at five Night City locations (40 styles)
- New hairstyles, clothing sets and Photo Mode poses for dual wielding
- In-game mods panel via mod.io
- Inventory filters and separate save libraries per character
The update is completely free for existing owners. Official details are available on Xbox Wire and the CD Projekt Red site.
