New DC-Marvel Crossover Unites Batman, Deadpool, Superman & Spider-Man

The DC-Marvel crossover is back after more than two decades without a major editorial crossover between the two universes. The collection DC/Marvel: The Cosmic Kiss Caper & Other Stories hits stores on September 8th, featuring 224-page hardcover and paperback editions. It unites two main stories and a series of short tales featuring characters from both publishers, according to an announcement published on the official DC website.

Batman with Deadpool, Superman with Spider-Man

The volume's standout stories feature unlikely duos: Batman and Deadpool, written by Grant Morrison with art by Dan Mora, and Superman and Spider-Man, written by Mark Waid and illustrated by Jorge Jiménez. Throughout the collection, other industry heavyweights—such as Tom King, Jim Lee, Gail Simone, and Tom Taylor—contribute shorter tales. These pit characters like Lois Lane and Mary Jane Watson, Power Girl and the Punisher, Nightwing and Wolverine, and Jimmy Olsen and Carnage face-to-face.

The End of a Two-Decade Hiatus

DC and Marvel crossovers were common in the 1990s and early 2000s, featuring classic encounters like Batman and Spider-Man or the JLA/Avengers miniseries. Following that, rights issues and business disputes between the two comic giants brought this type of project to a standstill. That is why this new collection is hailed as the first major DC-Marvel crossover in over two decades—a milestone for fans who grew up reading both publishers.

A Gateway for New Fans

For those who only know the characters from movies and TV shows, the collection also serves as a unique entry point. Seeing Batman trade punches (and jokes) with Deadpool on the page is precisely the kind of crossover that cinema, divided between rival studios, is unlikely to deliver anytime soon. Expectations are high that the volume will sell out quickly in comic shops.
