Microsoft presented on Friday, September 25, 2026, the new version of Copilot: a single app that combines chat, software creation and agents that keep working when the user leaves the screen.
The official announcement was published on the company blog by Jared Spataro, CMO of AI at Work. The app now has three tabs: Home, Code and Autopilot. Satya Nadella described Copilot as “a new OS for work” in a post on X.
What changed
Home brings together Copilot Chat and Cowork. A Today dashboard surfaces emails, meetings and Teams threads. Word, Excel and PowerPoint now run inside Copilot.
Code uses the same underlying technology as GitHub Copilot. Anyone can describe an app in natural language. Results run in a sandboxed tenant environment.
Autopilot is the new name for Scout. It lives in the cloud with its own identity, memory and workspace.
How billing works
The standard Copilot license covers chat and Office. Cowork, Code and Autopilot use usage-based billing.
Availability
Home and Code start in the Frontier program in the coming weeks. Autopilot enters private preview at the end of September.
