Cohere partners with Singapore's CSIT to bring sovereign AI to national security

Cohere announced on November 5, 2026, a strategic partnership with Singapore's Centre for Strategic Infocomm Technologies (CSIT) to advance the adoption of artificial intelligence applications in highly secure environments, in support of the country's national security operations.

What the partnership covers

Under the agreement, CSIT will use Cohere's enterprise-grade AI models and its agentic AI platform, North, to accelerate the deployment of AI applications in those environments. CSIT is an agency of Singapore's Ministry of Defence and a member of the country's Defence Technology Community, responsible for building advanced cybersecurity solutions and AI and data exploitation tools.

The partnership follows a successful pilot in which Cohere demonstrated it can deploy and operate AI inside secure on-premises environments while integrating with existing systems and workflows. The collaboration includes building and evaluating potential applications such as secure knowledge retrieval, automated analysis and report generation, and agentic workflows designed to streamline national security operations.

Capabilities for government and defense

According to the announcement, CSIT will benefit from capabilities designed for government, defense, and critical infrastructure organizations, including deployment flexibility, with support for fully on-premises and secured environments; centralized AI governance; secure enterprise integration; model interoperability; and mission-scale performance and reliability.

"Cohere is deeply committed to helping enterprises and governments build long-term sovereign AI capabilities," said Andrew Chang, Vice President of APAC at Cohere. Alvin Huang, Chief, Data and AI at CSIT, said that "as cyber threats grow in sophistication and threat actors use AI to amplify their attacks, CSIT is developing AI-enabled capabilities to strengthen Singapore's digital defence and secure our digital systems."

Expansion across Asia-Pacific

The announcement builds on Cohere's momentum across Asia-Pacific, where the company works with organizations including Fujitsu, LG CNS, and public sector institutions such as Japan's Digital Agency. According to the company, its APAC customer base has grown fivefold over the past year, and it plans to quadruple its regional presence by the end of 2027 through new investments, local partnerships, and additional offices. The release does not disclose contract value, timelines, or the number of users involved.
