Sony CEO says creativity is for humans, not AI

At the Paley International Summit, Hiroki Totoki, CEO of Sony Group, declared that “creativity is for humans, not AI”. The statement was made alongside Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, during a discussion on the role of artificial intelligence in the entertainment industry.

What was said

Totoki emphasized that he encourages the use of AI in a controlled manner, but that it is essential to protect the rights of creators, artists and rights holders. According to him, creativity remains an exclusively human strength, especially in fields such as games and films.

Zelnick added that AI should not replace developers, but that professionals who do not adopt the tool may be replaced by those who use it. He described AI as a collection of datasets, compute and language models — data that looks backward — while true creativity is forward-looking and surprising.

Context

The statement reinforces Sony's public position of treating AI as a support tool, not a replacement for artists. Sources: IGN and GameSpot, based on the speeches at the Paley International Summit on October 20, 2026.
