Cat Wu leaves Anthropic and Claude Code product leadership

Cat Wu, head of product for Claude Code and Cowork at Anthropic, has left the company. She announced her departure on November 3, 2026, in a post on X, and Anthropic confirmed the departure in Business Insider reports.

Cat Wu's path at Anthropic

Wu joined Anthropic in the summer of 2024 and, alongside Boris Cherny, the creator of Claude Code, helped turn the tool from an internal experiment into one of the company's leading AI coding products. In her farewell, she thanked the Claude Code, Cowork and Tag teams, but did not state a reason for leaving.

Cat Wu and the departures before the IPO

The departure comes weeks before Anthropic's initial public offering (IPO), expected in November 2026, according to the reports. It also follows other recent departures from the Claude Code team: Thariq Shihipar announced his the previous month, and Anthony Morris, developer of the desktop version, said goodbye on October 24, according to reports on the subject.

The reports reviewed did not indicate, so far, an announced successor for Wu's role. They also gave no indication of an immediate change to Claude Code because of the departure.
