The Castlevania series turns 40 on Saturday, September 26, 2026, marking the 1986 Famicom Disk System launch of the first Akumajō Dracula. Konami is giving away the original game free on iOS and Android for a limited time and published an official 1:48 celebration video.

In the note accompanying the video on its official YouTube channel, Konami says it wants to celebrate with long-time fans and is offering the first Castlevania app at no cost for a limited period. Players who claim it keep the game. The company also pointed to discounts on other series titles.

Why fans mention a 3D collection
Around the 1:21 mark, Simon Belmont walks past four framed portraits. The first shows art from Belmont's Curse. The other three display covers of 3D games that have not returned in a modern collection: Curse of Darkness (2005), Lament of Innocence (2003) and Lords of Shadow (2010).
Outlets including Polygon, Time Extension and Niche Gamer reported the fan reading: those frames could hint at a future 3D collection. Konami has not confirmed that. It is an interpretation of a visual detail. The Nintendo 64 Castlevania games barely appear in that sequence.
What it means
Konami has already bundled most 2D Castlevania games in recent collections. The 3D titles shown in the video remain off current platforms. In February the company called Belmont's Curse “the beginning of numerous new products” around the brand. That is not a collection announcement, but it explains why the frames sparked discussion.
What exists today is the free 1986 game on phones, the official video, and a new 2D title on the way. Any 3D collection stays speculative until Konami says so.
