Bot Colony Redux launches on Steam with free-form voice chat in 16 languages

Independent studio North Side Inc., from Montreal, launches Bot Colony Redux in Early Access on Steam this Friday, October 30, 2026. The conversational science-fiction adventure drops traditional dialogue trees: instead of picking ready-made answers, players speak into a microphone or type any sentence, in free-form language, to interact with the game's robots.

According to the studio's October 14 announcement, the game arrives with voice and text interaction in 16 languages on day one, processing player speech in real time. The robots are meant to interpret instructions, argue, adapt to what was said and act on it, including when they misunderstand something, which the studio presents as part of the experience's humor.

The story is a spy-thriller narrative set on a futuristic Pacific island, in which players must test their patience, wit and emotional resilience against advanced machines, in a plot that includes a Humanity Test run by interrogator robots. The game is built in Unreal Engine 5 and follows the original Bot Colony, which was retired in September 2026, according to the Steam community page.

Entry is free: from October 30, players can download the game and try its opening layers at no cost, with a starting allotment of LEKS, the in-game currency used to power AI interactions. Because this is Early Access, the content is still in development, and the effectiveness of the conversation systems, announced by the studio with no independent analysis available before launch, is the main thing for the public to test.

Bot Colony Redux is therefore an interesting test for a still-rare format: a game in which conversation is not a menu, but the core mechanic. If understanding across 16 languages works in practice, the title could become a reference for voice-driven adventures; if it fails often, its main appeal turns into frustration. Today's launch is the first step toward finding out which side it lands on.
