The Borderlands franchise has surpassed 100 million copies sold, Gearbox Software announced on November 2, 2026. The Borderlands 100 million milestone confirms the series' lasting success.
The announcement came in an official blog post. Since the first game launched in 2009, the looter-shooter series has become one of the biggest in its genre.
What did Gearbox say about Borderlands 100 million?
“The Borderlands franchise has officially crossed 100 million units sold. There aren't many franchises that have ever hit that milestone, and we certainly didn't get here on our own,” the team wrote, highlighting the passionate community.
CEO Randy Pitchford had predicted in 2025 that Borderlands 4 would push the series past 100 million.
Plans for the future
Gearbox finished Year One of Borderlands 4, which included two Story Packs, five Bounty Packs and two new Vault Hunters. The studio is now “cooking hard” on more content for 2027.
They are also taking a bigger look at the franchise, asking fans which characters and stories deserve a payoff. “A huge part of that is listening to you. Big plans take time,” they said.
Weekly refreshes and community challenges continue in the meantime.
