Bayonetta in Sonic Racing: Witch Joins CrossWorlds Year 2 Free

Sega has confirmed Bayonetta Sonic Racing as the first free racer for Year 2 of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. The official teaser dropped just ahead of the Tokyo Game Show 2026, putting the Umbra Witch right on the starting grid alongside Sonic, Godzilla, and Evangelion.

What is happening?

The free Bayonetta Sonic Racing update includes the playable character, the Butterfly Witch vehicle, plus exclusive emotes and voice lines. An exact release date has not been announced yet — the official statement simply states 'coming soon'. Further details are expected during the World Championship Finals and Year Two Showcase livestream on October 9, 2026, via YouTube and Twitch.

The same trailer showcased extended gameplay for the paid Godzilla and Evangelion add-on packs. The Godzilla pack brings the Godzilla Cruiser, King Ghidorah Coupe, and Mothra Surf vehicles, alongside the Godzilla Escape track. Meanwhile, the Evangelion pack features the Tokyo-3 circuit, EVA-01, EVA-00, and EVA-02 vehicles, and pilots Rei Ayanami and Asuka Shikinami Langley.

Why it matters

CrossWorlds spent its first year mixing the classic Sonic roster with Sega's own crossover guests — including Hatsune Miku, Joker from Persona, Ichiban from Like a Dragon, NiGHTS, AiAi, and Tangle & Whisper from the comics. Year One delivered a total of 13 free racers. Confirming Year 2 proves that this steady stream of free DLC updates is here to stay.

Bayonetta is owned by Sega, but her recent flagship titles have been Nintendo console exclusives. Seeing her appear for free in a cross-play kart racer spanning PS5, Xbox, Switch 2, Switch, and PC highlights how the publisher is using the racing title as a ultimate showcase for its broader portfolio.

What's next

Existing players won't need to spend a dime to race as the iconic witch. The Godzilla and Evangelion packs remain paid Year 2 DLC content. The game is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store), supporting cross-platform online multiplayer for up to 12 players.
