ASUS XG Core brings Radeon RX 9060 XT to laptops and handhelds over USB4

The ASUS XG Core, announced on Friday (November 6, 2026), is a compact external graphics dock with a Radeon RX 9060 XT LP GPU and 16 GB of GDDR6 memory, based on AMD's RDNA 4 architecture. It connects over USB4 and brings discrete graphics to thin laptops, mini PCs and gaming handhelds with no internal modification to the device.

The ASUS XG Core measures just 144 x 117 x 39 mm and is designed to travel with the user between home, office and studio: just plug in the USB4 cable, with up to 40 Gbps of bandwidth, to turn a portable machine into a gaming or creative workstation. It also supports Thunderbolt 3 systems and has HDMI and DisplayPort outputs for an external monitor. Compatibility includes the ROG Ally X and ROG Xbox Ally X handhelds.

Specifications and power limit

According to Notebookcheck, which examined the product's updated specifications, the GPU runs within a 75 W power limit, with a 1,010 MHz game clock and a 1,600 MHz boost clock — well below desktop RX 9060 XT cards — but keeps the 2,048 stream processors, 16 GB of GDDR6, 20 Gbps memory speed and 128-bit bus of the chip. The GPU Tweak III software allows adjusting clocks, memory and fan speed, with real-time monitoring.

ASUS claims the XG Core can deliver more than 60 frames per second in selected AAA games at 1440p, but has not disclosed the detailed test conditions — so the figure should be treated as a manufacturer claim, not an independent result.

Local AI, pricing and availability

Beyond gaming, the ASUS XG Core targets local AI: ASUS cites on-device image generation and language-model inference with apps such as ComfyUI, LM Studio and Ollama. For creators, GPU acceleration helps with video editing, 3D rendering and design.

ASUS has not yet announced pricing or a release date. The XG Core should not be confused with the ROG XG Station 3, announced by ASUS earlier in the week: that is a Thunderbolt 5 dock for desktop graphics cards, while the XG Core has the GPU built into a portable body.
