Apple launches iMac M6: performance and AI leap in colorful design

What happened?

Apple announced today, October 27, 2026, the new iMac M6. The 24-inch all-in-one keeps its thin, vibrant design available in seven colors (blue, green, pink, yellow, purple, orange, and silver), but brings significant internal upgrades in performance and AI capabilities.

The M6, Apple's first 2 nm chip, features up to 12-core CPU and GPU, Dual 16-core Neural Engine, and up to 170 GB/s memory bandwidth. Compared to the M4 iMac, Apple promises up to 40% faster CPU performance, 2x graphics, 2x faster storage, and up to 5x faster on-device AI performance.

Why is this important?

The M6 iMac skips the M5 generation, making the leap more meaningful for users still on older models. Apple highlights support for Siri AI and Apple Intelligence in macOS 27, with on-device processing that preserves privacy. Connectivity improves with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and optional 2.5Gb Ethernet on 12-core models.

Prices start at $1,499 for the 10-core configuration, the same range as the previous model. Pre-orders begin October 28, with availability starting November 6.

What changes in practice?

Productivity, content creation, and light gaming users gain more speed and the ability to run AI models locally. The 4.5K Retina display remains, along with Center Stage camera and spatial audio. It's a strong internal update that keeps the iMac's iconic visual appeal.
