Anthropic launched Claude Duet on Wednesday (21), a new app where Claude works as a proactive agent. Claude Duet comes to you with what needs your attention, completes tasks you ask of it, keeps working even when you step away, and checks with you before it acts on your behalf.
Built around the Claude Opus 5.5 model, Claude Duet carries over the memory, skills, and connected apps from the user’s Claude account. Every morning it sends a short brief on the most important items across connected apps. Throughout the day it monitors and only messages when something actually needs you.
The agent can handle simple tasks such as scheduling meetings up to more complex ones like building dashboards, financial forecasts, or prototyping apps. It runs on its own cloud computer and is available as a standalone app for iOS and Android, plus the web version at claude.ai.
How Claude Duet works and the safeguards
Claude Duet asks for approval before sending messages, making payments, signing documents, or deleting anything. It never directly sees passwords and uses a classifier to guard against sharing sensitive information. Actions such as trading securities or moving money between accounts are blocked even with approval.
For now, Claude Duet is in research preview via waitlist, limited to Pro and Max subscribers in the United States. Team and Enterprise plans do not yet have access. Anthropic acknowledges the system can still misjudge urgency and will be tuned based on early user feedback.
