Anthropic puts $100 million into Claude Frontier Academy to train 10,000 engineers

On October 2, 2026, Anthropic opened Claude Frontier Academy, a training program backed by a $100 million commitment to train 10,000 Frontier Deployed Engineers by the end of 2027. The goal is not a generic prompt course: the company wants engineers who can take Claude from a use case to a production system inside companies and consultancies.

The Claude Frontier Academy announcement is on Anthropic's official blog. The first cohorts are already running in San Francisco, New York and London, with people nominated by Accenture, Bain, Capgemini, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Deloitte, McKinsey, Morgan Stanley and Novo Nordisk, among others. Participation is by organizational nomination, not open enrollment.

How the residency works

The first course is the Frontier Deployed Engineer Residency. Anthropic says it follows a model close to medical training: learning from practitioners, realistic cases and assessment before someone practices alone.

  • The requested profile is a software engineer with strong fundamentals, a record of building with language models and a named Claude project at their home organization. Prior agent experience is not required.
  • The in-person stage includes a simulated deployment, from use-case choice through security review to handover, and ends with a graded practical. Those who pass earn the Claude Resident Engineer badge.
  • A 12-week residency follows, in which the engineer leads a real Claude use case at their own organization, supported by Anthropic engineers. A second assessment awards the Claude Frontier Deployed Engineer badge. Anthropic expects the first credentials in early 2027.

Steve Corfield, Anthropic's global head of business development and partnerships, described the bottleneck as a shortage of people with high AI fluency and business understanding, not merely access to the model. That is a company statement about its own strategy, not an independent measure of the talent market.

What changes

Claude Frontier Academy builds on the Claude Partner Network. According to Anthropic, professionals across 46,000 firms have earned more than 175,000 Claude certifications, and nearly 4,000 people have completed Basecamp, an immersive program that uses the Applied AI onboarding curriculum. The new residency is presented as the step for people who will lead the work, not only operate the tool.

For a technology audience, the move shows that competition among AI labs now includes training inside the customer. Anthropic has not published a price per seat, a detailed selection rubric or a full calendar through 2027. What is confirmed is the size of the commitment, the 10,000-engineer target and the shape of the first residency.
