Anbernic RG DDS: dual-screen handheld emulates 3DS, PS3 and Xbox with perfect scaling

What happened?

Anbernic revealed the RG DDS, its new flagship dual-screen handheld, with videos showing emulation of Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 3, Xbox and Wii U. The Anbernic RG DDS features screens with aspect ratios identical to the original 3DS: a 4.7-inch top screen (1200x720, 5:3) and a 4-inch bottom screen (960x720, 4:3), both 500-nit IPS panels at around 300 PPI, enabling perfect 3x integer scaling for 3DS games.

Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon G2 Gen 2, with reports of 12 GB RAM, 6000 mAh battery, extendable stylus, vibration and active cooling, the RG DDS also demonstrates GameNative support for Steam and Turnip drivers. Estimated price around $300, with no confirmed release date yet.

Why does this matter?

The dual-screen handheld market is growing rapidly with competitors like Ayaneo, and the RG DDS positions itself as a modern successor to the Nintendo 3DS without the 3D effect. The ability to run 3DS at up to 5x integer scaling, plus PS3 and Xbox via emulation, raises the bar for portable retro and modern devices.

With controls including two analog sticks and a faithful clamshell design, the device appeals to emulation fans seeking an authentic experience without relying on discontinued official hardware.

What changes in practice?

Players will be able to carry 3DS libraries with superior sharpness, as well as explore titles from later generations in a dual-screen format. The dedicated button for AI features (not yet detailed) suggests future integration with intelligent assistants.

For the Chinese handheld ecosystem, the RG DDS reinforces Anbernic as a serious player in high-performance devices, competing directly with more expensive options like the Ayaneo Pocket DS.
