AMD releases FSR SDK 2.4 with Vulkan support and ML upscaling on RX 6000 and Ryzen APUs

AMD has released the FSR SDK 2.4, the latest version of the development kit for its FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) technology in the Redstone line. The update expands the reach of machine-learning-based upscaling and adds official Vulkan support with feature parity to DirectX 12.

A key highlight is FSR Upscaling 4.1.2, which now runs on Radeon RX 6000 GPUs (RDNA 2 architecture) and selected Ryzen processors with integrated graphics, including the Ryzen AI Max line. Previously, ML upscaling was limited to the RX 7000 and RX 9000 series. The SDK also includes FSR Frame Generation 4.0.2, Ray Regeneration 1.2.1 and updated analytical components.

For the first time in the Redstone line, the SDK offers Vulkan support at feature parity with DirectX 12 for upscaling and frame generation. This covers FSR Upscaling 4.1.2, FSR 3.1.6 and the frame generation implementations. Existing Vulkan games do not receive an automatic upgrade via driver; developers must integrate the new SDK. Additionally, Frame Generation Swapchain 4.0.0 brings Driver-Assisted Frame Pacing on Radeon RX 9000.

The package is available on GPUOpen’s GitHub. For players, the impact depends on studios integrating the SDK into current and future titles. Expanding support to older hardware and adding Vulkan are meaningful steps for those using Radeon GPUs on PC or looking at APUs and games that prefer the open API.
