AMD FSR 4.1 upscaling technology officially arrives on Radeon RX 6000 cards, Ryzen AI processors, Ryzen Z2 handhelds and Xbox Series X/S consoles, bringing machine learning to older hardware.
What happened?
Jack Huynh, AMD SVP, announced the expansion of FSR Upscaling 4.1 alongside the Adrenalin Edition 26.10.1 driver released on October 20, 2026. The feature, previously limited to the RX 9000 and RX 7000 series, now covers the full RDNA 2 lineup (from the RX 6950 XT down to the RX 6400), Ryzen AI Max 300/400, Ryzen AI 9, and Z2 Extreme/Z2 A chips used in handhelds such as the ROG Xbox Ally.
For the RX 6000, AMD optimized the neural model for INT8. Lighter versions were prepared for portables. Support for Xbox Series X and S is coming soon in partnership with Microsoft, and FSR 4.1 also gains Vulkan API support.
Why does it matter?
Owners of 2020-era cards and current handhelds can get better image quality and more frames in dozens of games without buying new hardware. FSR 4.1 includes upscaling, frame generation and ray reconstruction, moving closer to Nvidia DLSS in more than 300 already-supported titles, including Cyberpunk 2077 and Battlefield 6.
The move is especially relevant amid the current GPU shortage and high prices, helping the AMD ecosystem stay competitive.
