The Google DeepMind Gemini agents Minecraft Ender Dragon team defeated the final boss in a random survival world without strategic human help. Four Gemini 4 Argon agents completed the challenge in 27 hours and 14 minutes.
What happened?
The experiment, described in an arXiv paper by DeepMind researchers, started with bare hands on Easy mode. The only instruction was to defeat the dragon. No roles or pre-written tools were given.
They chatted, divided tasks (tools, resources, exploration) and wrote 2,783 JavaScript programs via Mineflayer. They died 605 times but adapted and recovered items. A fifth instance observed without intervening.
Why it matters
Presented as the first end-to-end autonomous Minecraft completion by generalist agents with standard tools. Shows long-term planning and cooperation in AI.
