1Password for Agents: platform lets AI agents log in without seeing passwords

On October 22, 2026, 1Password announced the 1Password for Agents platform, which allows personal AI agents (such as Anthropic’s Claude Duet, OpenAI’s ChatGPT Work and Dots, SpaceXSI’s Grok Bot, and Meta’s Muse) to log into websites on the user’s behalf without ever viewing, storing, or receiving passwords, one-time codes, or other credentials.

The flow works as follows: when the agent reaches a login page, it sends a unique digital key to 1Password to identify itself. The user receives an alert on their own device, sees which credential is requested and why, and approves or denies it. If approved, 1Password automatically fills the form — the agent only receives confirmation that access was granted and continues the task. Passwords remain in the 1Password vault with end-to-end encryption, and access is one-time, not permanent.

Initial integrations include Muse (Meta), Claude Duet (Anthropic — coming soon), ChatGPT Work and Dots (OpenAI — coming soon), Grok Bot (SpaceXSI), and Townie (Town). More partners are planned. The service is available at no extra cost for Individual and Family accounts on 1Password.com (not yet on .eu or .ca).

The announcement comes at a time when banks and institutions report difficulty distinguishing legitimate AI agent activity in user accounts, and it reinforces the human-in-the-loop approval model to reduce credential exposure risks. 1Password had previously worked on a specific browser integration with Claude; this platform expands the concept to multiple personal agents.
